Survival rate of pathogenic S. agnetis
Currently, I have been working on detecting the ability of pathogenic S agnetis (chicken and cattle isolates) to evade the killing mechanism performed by macrophages. since this bacteria are able to survive in the blood and were found to be associated with the Buffy coat layer. Also, many studies have found S. aureus isolates are able to survive engulfment by macrophages. For this purpose HTC cell line, the chicken macrophages, has been used as a cell culture model. The ability of bacteria to survive inside macrophages is a virulence mechanism for this pathogen that may contribute to the systemic dissemination of S. agnetis infection in broiler chickens.
